Delhi Capitals have announced their coaching staff for the upcoming inaugural Women's Premier League 2023, which will be held from March 4 to 26 in Mumbai. Capitals co-owned JSW-GMR named Jonathan Batty as head coach. Batty previously coached the Oval Invincibles Women's team to The Hundred titles in 2021 and 2022, as well as coaching Melbourne Stars in the Women's Big Bash League and Surrey Women's.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Delhi Capitals as the head coach of the inaugural WPL," Batty said in a statement. "I am honored to be given this opportunity by management and I look forward to working with the team. It is an incredible time to be involved in women's cricket and the WPL has the potential to change the professional women's sport globally," he added.
Delhi Capitals have also appointed former cricketers Hemlata Kalu and Lisa Keightley as assistant coaches of the team. Kala, who played 78 ODIs and 7 Tests for India, was the head of the all-India selection committee for the women's team. "I am grateful and excited for this new role at Delhi Capitals. I look forward to putting our team together ahead of the inaugural edition of the tournament, which I believe will be a game-changer for women's cricket," said Kala.
Former Indian women's team coach Biju George has been added to Delhi Capitals as their coach in the Women's Premier League. George also works in the same capacity with the Delhi Capitals men's side. Keightley, who played 82 ODIs and 9 Tests for Australia, coached the England women's side to the 2022 World Cup finals. She also served as head coach for the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League.
